2 February - Picture Night

Day event
Walk Coordinator: Jeff Holmes
Meet: Club Sapphire, Merimbula. Meeting room downstairs
from main entrance (the usual place).
Contact walk coordinator for meeting time.
Grade: Easy
Distance: Not far km
Description: Break for dinner (upstairs - can be brought back down for
consumption) 7pm for about 45 mins. Or so. Continue videos/pix until later in
the evening. With Covid restrictions relaxed, some of us were able to travel
overseas in 2022. This is a chance to share your experiences. If you didn't get
away, don't fret, you can still show something from an Australian trip, or
imagery from the distant past. For the past couple of years there has been
plenty to watch, so we'll have to adhere to a strict time limit - 20 mins. (or
about 80 photos). The images will be viewed on a large flat-screen TV, so
horizontal (landscape) format photos would be more appropriate. There will be a
sound system for videos. All videos/images to be given to Jeff in a USB thumb-
drive on the night. (For those folk who have Apple devices with their own
formats which may pose compatibility issues, I suggest you bring your own
laptop, which can be used later in the evening.) With no restrictions on
numbers, there is no need to say you are coming, but if you are showing
imagery, please let Jeff know beforehand, to assist with organising the evening.

just reminisce about the good old days.

Distance: Contact Jeff km
Description: Day rides from base camps. A mix of sealed and unsealed roads +
a few rough tracks.  OK for mountain bikes & hybrids.  Do-able on a road bike
though not ideal.  The distances can be varied depending on how people are
going.  Ideally, early starts if the weather is warm.
16th    Around Tuross Head on bike trail, then across the Princes Hwy and into
the State Forest.  Flat, then undulating with a few moderate hills.  Return
same route (probably)
17th    Inland from Moruya, steep climb up Larrys Mtn, a short way along the
Araluen Road, then back to Moruya.  (A few kms along the highway at the
beginning). Possibly ride out to Moruya Heads & back afterwards.
18th    Nelligen to Currawan Creek or Shallow Crossing along River Road in the
morning, returning to Nelligen.  After lunch, ride along Runnyford Road to
Buckenbowra Bridge & back.  Undulating
19th    Tomakin to Moruya via Broulee along coast and past Moruya Airport.
Return same way, then drive home.  Generally flat.
Staying at:15th & 16th    Tuross Heads Lakeside Caravan Park.  Only 3
unpowered sites adjacent to road.  Suggest a powered site.  If a group of us
are camping, then site nos. 15,16,17,18,19,20 form a cluster.  Cabins also +
camp kitchen & swimming pool.
17th & 18th    Barlings Beach holiday park.  Plenty of unpowered sites, not so
many powered ones.  Cabins also + camp kitchen & swimming pool.  As it's a
weekend, if you want a powered site suggest you don't wait too long before
booking.
Can you let Jeff know if you are a likely starter.  Also, if book a site, can
you tell Jeff the number so he can pass it on to the others.

PHOTOS
Day event
Walk Coordinators: Phil Kendall and Lyn Evans
Meet: Car park behind Pambula shops or by arrangement further south.
Contact walk coordinator for meeting time.
Grade: Moderate/Hard
Distance: 9 km
Description: On previous walks we have covered the western forested part of
Disaster Bay but following the 2019-20 bushfire there is now a limited
opportunity to cover the eastern parts nearer
Greencape while the heath is still low and not too prickly. The scenery is even
more spectacular in this area and we will do a number of side trip to cliff-
top vantage points. The plan is to do a short car shuffle to enable a mostly
one way loop walk which involves several short off-track sections,
rocky headlands, 4WD tracks and rehabilitated fire trails. Gaiters/long pants
are an advantage in a few scrubby sections. There are swimming possibilities at
morning tea and lunch. Parking is limited so we will car pool at Pambula. The
Greencape Road is currently in good condition, suitable for 2WD vehicles. Easy
•on trail sections for over half of the walk.

Meet:  Snowbird Lodge, Charlotte Pass
Grade: See Description
Description: Accommodation is at Snowbird Lodge in Charlotte Pass. I will
attach the booking form to this document. Details of self-catering facilities
will be sent by email to all members who have reserved accommodation.
Activities:-
Due to unpredictable weather some of the following walks will be led by Tony on
 the most suitable days
1. The Sentinal
Grade: Moderate       Distance: Abt. 10 to 12 km
A lovely walk to the spectacular western fall of the main range. It is mainly
very straight forward, however, there are some steep sections that are off
track, and one short but very exposed section of rock scrambling ( you need a
head for heights). The ROCK SCRAMBLING PART IS COMPLETELY VOLUNTARY, for those
who do not wish to do it, it will not detract from the walk in any way.
It is a great walk !! Not to be missed !!
2. Mount Stillwell area
Grade: Moderate       Distance: Abt. 10 km
Half of the walk is without a track, but not hard at all. Close to Charlotte
Pass, on 2000 metre plus wide ridge line. We will locate remains of some old
buildings which were part
of a short lived chair lift/tourist development in the early 1960,s. Great
•views of the main range and Thredbo Valley.
3. Club Lake
Grade: Moderate       Distance: Abt. 8km
Half off track to a very interesting glacial lake. You will feel like you are
in the middle of no where. Very interesting flora , and maybe fauna, for those
with a sharp eye.
4. Beneath Mount Northcote and Mount Clarke
Grade: Moderate       Distance: Abt. 8 km
Similar to and adjacent to the Club Lake walk but mostly off track with that
great "wilderness" feel. A good time will be had by all !!!
Mark and Marie Oakley will lead the following walk on Thursday:-
Charlotte Pass to North Perisher
Grade: Moderate       Distance: Abt 17km
Description: A generally easy walk on tracks and road from Charlotte Pass via
Illawong Lodge, Guthega and Blue Cow Ski Fields to North Perisher. A car
shuffle will be needed. There is steep climb on well-made road in Guthega,
otherwise generally flat or downhill.
Other activities:-
- Charlotte Pass to Perisher via Porcupine Rocks.
National Parks are upgrading this trail but at this stage we are not sure if it
will be complete by our time in March.
- Main Range Circuit.
This is a challenging 22km circuit which takes in the glacial lakes.
- Bike ride from Charlotte Pass to Mt Kosciusko.
For those who might like to bring their pushbikes we can cycle to Rawsons Pass
& then climb Mt Kosciusko. Possible time Monday after arrival.

The plan is to arrive at Lane Cove Tourist Park on the 1st and leave the 7th.

require patience at times. An Opal card will be needed.

studio and $132 a two bedroom cabin which can accommodate 4 people. These
prices are for two people. A deposit will be required.  Cancellations will not
be refunded but a credit given to be used within 12 months at any Discovery

reccie-ing again closer to the date to see if there’s much bush bashing -
hopefully it’s sorted itself out. The gorge itself is accessible regardless of
the re-growth if we have to change things. Don’t be put off by the bouldering
or the Moderate/Hard grading…on a previous reccie, my favourite guinea pigs
(Ann, Kerrie & Delma) managed it with style!  In other words, as long as you’re
OK rockhopping, we’ll get you through.

1 September to 3 September - Annual Snowshoeing Extravaganza!  NB Changed Dates!  PHOTOS
Base Camp
Walk Coordinator: Jo Thorpe
Meet: TBA
Grade: Easy
Distance: 4-5 km
Description: We’re on again! The aim this year is to get away from Perisher
(depending on snow and weather) e.g. Cascades, Deadhorse Gap, Guthega. We are
also going mid-week this year to avoid crazy weekend traffic & crowds + make it easier to get accommodation. Expect an early drive up to start point to get a park.
Put simply, if you’re a bushwalker, you can snowshoe. The only special gear you
need, is snowshoes (which you can hire) and some waterproof gloves (of which
Jo has thousands of pairs!). Other than that, you just need your usual winter
bushwalking gear (boots, rainjacket/pants, warm layers and a beanie…gaiters if
you’ve got them). Bring a stove/thermos for tea/coffee/hot chocolate/noodles/
cupasoup for lunch.
Pre-walk nibblies/dinner on the Saturday night at Jo’s house at Lake
Crackenback Resort (please bring something to share) from 5pm. Book your own
accommodation depending on your preference but you can do it as a daytrip if
you’re happy to drive. Best to stay in Jindabyne because the starting point is
yet to be determined.
PLEASE NOTE: BOOK ACCOMMODATION ASAP (i.e. now if you can), especially if you want to van it or find something affordable.  Last year, people got into the
Dalgety Pub last minute but that’s a bit of a drive with an early start. If
you’ve got any questions, just call me. But because I’m overseas
until mid-April, you could try ringing Eric or Di Moon who’ve been coming
every year and know the guff.
