Walk Leaders: Phil Kendall and Lyn Evans
Grade: Easy/Moderate
Distance: 13 km
Description: Nunnock Swamp is a very pleasant forest-fringed wetland and grassy
woodlands in the tablelands of the Tantawangalo section of South East Forests
National Park. The area was not affected by the 2020 bushfires and is in its best condition for many years. There is a network of walking trails around the swamp and near Alexanders Hut to the east. There are lots of interpretive signs talking about the history of the area and the significant flora and fauna and the leaders have knowledge of the area from past NPWS work. We will be doing a couple of loop walks.
You can arrive at Nunnock Swamp by one of three ways. From Pambula it is about
1.25 hours drive via the Mt Darragh Road, turning right just before Cathcart on Tantawangalo Mountain road then left on to New Line Road and eventually right on to Packers Swamp Road. It is all well signposted to Nunnock Swamp the entrance road turning off to the right. The campground is a short distance along Cattlemans Link Trail. From Candelo you can take the rougher mostly unsealed Tantawangalo Mountain Road to the same junction with New Line Road. The third option is via the Snowy Mountains Highway via Bemboka and Brown Mountain, turning left on to the northern end of Packers Swamp Road.
If you wish to camp either before or after the walk, please check NPWS website since the Nunnock campground was closed in January due to tree hazards. There is limited parking so please consider car pooling for the drive from home.

15 May to 29 May - Northern Flinders Ranges and Beyond PHOTOS
Walk Leaders: Phil Kendall and Lyn Evans
Grade:
Description: This trip is still in the planning stages and is largely exploratory in nature since the leaders have not visited the area for many years. Further details will be advised to those interested in a series or emails and possibly a trip meeting.
The plan is to leave soon after Jeff's Congo camp and drive to a meeting spot beyond where we left off at the end of the 2018 Flinders Ranges trip. From there we will be camping and doing many day walks, 4WD and cultural touring in the Gammon Ranges, Nantawarrina Indigenous Protected Area and Arkaroola area for approximately two weeks. There are options for overnight walks also for those interested. Because the roads can be somewhat rough, a 4WD is preferred and some tracks may not be suitable for road-going caravans and camper trailers.
An optional extension for those with more time (an extra week to ten days) is to proceed north and east into the corner country and visit Sturt National Park where Lyn used to be ranger in the 1980s. From there it is possible to return independently through outback NSW. The leaders and one other couple are planning a longer trip into Queensland which will involve some 4WD travelling with off-road caravans.
For further information or inclusion on our email trip list please contact the leaders preferably by end of February.

Stunning views, imposing cliffs, narrow spurs, varied vegetation and more lyrebirds than you can poke a stick at! The good news – no bushbashing! Rated “hard” just because it’s uphill all the way with some steep sections and a short bouldering section (about 4 metres only).

29 August - Annual Snowshoeing Extravaganza!
POSTPONED
Alas, I love leading this trip but my haggard body (J) has failed me yet again! A hip injury means I’m out of action for at least a month (L). Hoping to postpone it to mid-September to late September and work around existing walks for that month. Will keep you posted.
Base Camp
Walk Leader: Jo Thorpe
Grade: Easy
Distance: TBA km
Description: Now into its 3rd year, the annual Snowshoeing extravaganza is building a reputation for taking bushwalkers to a special world of winter snowgums, piercing blue alpine skies and marsupial tracks on an arctic white carpet.
Put simply, if you’re a bushwalker, you can snowshoe. Just ask recent participants, most of whom have had limited or no experience in the snow. The only special gear you need, is snowshoes (which you can hire) and some waterproof gloves (of which Jo has thousands of pairs!). Other than that, you just need your usual winter bushwalking gear (boots, rainjacket/pants, warm layers and a beanie…gaiters if you’ve got them). Bring a stove/thermos for tea/coffee/hot chocolate/noodles/ cupasoup for lunch. You never know, some mulled wine maybe on the menu.
Pre-walk nibblies/dinner on the Saturday night at Jo’s house at 10 Ramshead Trail, Lake Crackenback (please bring something to share) from 5pm. Book your own accommodation depending on your preference but you can do it as a daytrip if you’re happy to drive. Best to stay in Jindabyne because the starting point is yet to be determined.

10th October Mataganah Peak
Walk Co-ordinator: Jo Thorpe
Meet: 10am TBA
Grade: Moderate
Distance: 8 - 10km
Tony Postlethwaite and I will be running a moderate walk of about 8-10km to Mataganah Peak at Rocky Hall on Sunday October 10. It’s mostly off track through some fire affected country with a downhill/uphill bit (solid but not too drastic) but ends on a great granite peak with amazing views south if you’re happy to wander up and through some boulders. There are also some gorgeous wildflowers up there too! Depending on numbers, we may need some 4WD/AWDs to ferry people into the property after meeting at the Rocky Hall Cemetery. No need to let me know yet….wait to see if Snowshoeing happens!

4th November Leaders Meeting Club Sapphire ALL WELCOME Next year's program will be put together.
7 November - The Ulli & Ian Commemorative Escapade
Day event
Walk Leaders: Ulrike Groiss, Ian Bovill, Jo Thorpe and Tony
Postlethwaite
Grade: Moderate
Distance: TBA km
Description: To ask a philosophical question – What is a BVBW program without
Ulli & Ian?
Perhaps the answer is in our imagination – picture a bevy of aimlessly wandering bushwalkers, bereft of leadership, searching for a route to glory and happiness, peppered with the poking of a poisonous snake and some hard European bread.
As many would know, Ulli & Ian are enjoying their first cold winter in more than a decade. Some may blame the Mexican Beer Virus, others may blame the conspiratorial mastermind who engineered expensive hotel quarantine in order to
snaffle temporary digs in prime Tura Beach real estate?
Whatever the reason, please join us for a commemorative walk to a destination
unknown. We’re hoping Ulli & Ian will be back but if not, their avatars will come up with something interesting (possibly behind Lochiel or maybe Wolumla).
It won’t be too long but may involve some steep climbs.
And as a special treat and photo op, please wear/bring something that reminds
you of “The Austrians”.
