Hi there
I’m writing from Woodslane Press, a book publisher based on Sydney’s northern beaches. We publish Australia’s bestselling series of walking guides:
We are looking for someone (or a small team of people) who would be keen to take on the job of researching, writing and photographing a walking guide for us on the best walks up and down the Sapphire Coast.
Ideally the person or small group should embody the following talents/attributes:
Ø Well organised and able to present material in Word document and Excel format
Ø Able to write reasonably clearly and logically
Ø Have an interest in the local environment, culture and history and be able to convey that
Ø Able to take reasonably good photographs
Ø Be able to dedicate about 50 days, within a 12-month period, to the project
One thing I must say: nobody should consider this if their primary driver is financial. Very few of our walking guides could be said to be money-spinners for their authors, and most of them do the books for other reasons: simple enjoyment and a sense of self-satisfaction, for health (one women last about 20 kgs researching!), media exposure as it relates to other, sometimes professional activities etc. Most of our books stay in print for years and authors get a steady series of royalty payments – and they can mount up to useful sums – but the reality is that it will be a few thousand over a number of years.
I would be grateful if you could circulate this invitation to any local people/groups you think might be interested. The project would obviously suit someone either retired or semi-retired, or perhaps someone younger if they are able to dedicate the time.
Very many thanks
Andrew
