couple of weeks. BYO prerequisites for BBQ.

Meet: 6:30 at Tura Beach Murrang Library, Tura Beach Drive

23 February - Kayaking; Jellat Jellat to Mogareeka
Day event
Walk Coordinators: Eric Moon and Diane Moon
Meet: 10:00am at The Russell's driveway on Jellat Jellat.
Grade: Easy
Description: Meet 10am; at the Russell's driveway on Jellat Jellat. The Russells
own the dairy on Jellat Jellat and are very generously allowing us to use their
access to the Bega River. Their driveway leads down to the river through two
private properties. We’ll meet just inside the driveway (as there isn’t room to
park on the Tathra Road), wait until everyone is there and then all travel down
together.

It is fairly easy to find; Tathra Road - 1.6km from Wallagoot Lane intersection
if you’re coming from the Tathra direction and 1.6km from the Kerrisons Lane
intersection with Tathra Road if you’re coming from Bega direction. It’s directly
opposite the Russell's home driveway which has a prominent Bega Dairy sign out
the front. Also it’s very close where their cattle cross the Tathra Road. Enter
the driveway and wait.

The Trip; We’ll paddle from the Jellat flats to the mouth of the Bega River at
Mogareeka with a side trip into Blackfellas Lake. We’ll stop along the way for
morning tea AND lunch so be prepared for a full day’s paddling. We’ll have
vehicles at Mogareeka to take the drivers back to their cars at Jellat. It will
be an interesting paddle considering the recent rains, the effect of the fires
and the fact that the mouth of the river is now open at Tathra. Adventures
abound!

ALSO; As the trip involves a car shuffle and entry to private property, we would
appreciate knowing who will be coming. So, could you please let us know by phone
or email if you’ll be there.

https://www.snowyrivercycling.com.au/blog/2020/02/06/east-gippsland-open-for-business

Most of the railtrail is on gravel - suitable for mountain bikes or hybrids.
E-bikes allowed, provided I can have a go on yours. :-)

My intention is to use the campground at Bruthen Caravan Park (adjacent to Trail) as a base to save moving sites.  The stages can be one-way or return, but will
involve some vehicle shuffling for the one-way riders.  Distances given are for
the one-way trip.  The Orbost - Nowa Nowa day will probably be one-way for
everyone, except the very keen & fit, given the later start.

I will probably spend Sunday night at Genoa rest area (toilets & cold showers,
but no power) after the Sunday walk, then drive on to Orbost on the Monday
morning with an early-ish start.

Mon 4 May    Orbost - Nowa Nowa    38 km    (drive on to Bruthen to camp there)
Tue 5            Bruthen - Nowa Nowa    30 km

Booking one month in advance would be fine. Let me know if you want to come at least before mid July. You can book yourself in later if you like.

The plan is to arrive and set up on the fri.   On saturday walk Watson Bay to
circular Quay, sunday Circular Quay to Mosman Wharf  then monday have a free day
and then tuesday Mosman wharf to Spit Bridge and wednesday Spit Bridge to Manly.
Each day will involve travelling by public transport which comes frequently but
will require patience at times. A seniors Opal  card means each day will cost no
more than $2.50.

There is a woolworth supermarket right next to Chatsworth station.

The walks will be easy and will include many foreshore national parks. The views
of the harbour are beautiful and there will be historic buildings.  It will
include some walking along some quiet streets. There are cafes along the way and small inlet beaches and parks.

For more information ring me on 0432187670. I am not keen to drive in Sydney so if anyone wants to carpool, share a cabin or even go by public transport let me
know.
5 September to 6 September - Snowshoeing
Day event
Walk Coordinator: Jo Thorpe
Meet: 10:00 at See description. Contact Jo 04 2765 6878 EARLY to keep informed.
Grade: Easy
Distance: see description km
Description: Following on the success of last year's excursion, we'll be heading
off in a different direction a world away from high country ski resorts . No
previous experience necessary - just snowshoes and appropriate attire.

Depending on snow, weather and how everyone goes, we have a choice of off-trail from Blue Cow, Cascades Hut trail, Perisher-Smiggins trails or lower altitude hikes.

Snowshoes can be hired from Wilderness Sports in Jindabyne
(https://www.wildernesssports.com.au/pages/snowshoe-hire) (avoid arranging that on the Sunday morning) or you’d be surprised how often they turn up in op shops.  Dress/bring gear for all possible alpine conditions. Hiking boots are all you need – gaiters are helpful for avoiding wet, freezing socks after accidentally
falling into a tree well. We’ll even stop long enough for a cooked lunch and hot
cuppas for morning/afternoon teas (so bring or share a stove).

Pre-walk nibblies/dinner on the Saturday night at Jo’s house at 10 Ramshead
Trail, Lake Crackenback (please bring something to share) from 5pm. Book your own accommodation depending on your preference. Recommendation for the best value and nicest caravan park with powered/unpowered sites + cabin/bunk accommodation is The Adventist Alpine Village in Jindabyne (https://www.alpinevillage.com.au/).
Depending on the start point, if you stay at Thredbo or Perisher, it’s a 1-hour
drive to the other resort in good weather
17 September to 19 September - Thurra River camp
Base Camp
Walk Coordinators: Lyn Evans and Phil Kendall
Meet:  at After midday at Thurra River campsite  on Thursday 17th
Grade: Easy/Moderate

walking trails and river bed.

This is a 3 night  camp in Croajingalong National Park which  preceeds a day walk in the area north of Cann River. As such you can stay an extra night or two and include the day walk or do one or the other separately.

The Thurra River campground can be reached via Cann River (about 2 hours via
either the Princes Highway or Cann Valley Highway). The road turns off in Cann
River township and takes about 45 minutes, the last section being unsealed
(expect some pot holes and corrugations). It is well signposted as Point Hicks
and Thurra/ Mueller camps at several points along the way. Arrival time is
flexible from lunchtime on, since there is no organised walk on the Friday but
various opportunities to walk or relax for those arriving early. The campground
has basic facilities (pit toilets, a few tables and shared fireplaces) and some
campsites are suitable for caravans/camper trailers. You will need to bring
drinking water, washing water is available from the river (bring a bucket). The
cost is per campsite per night is to be confirmed, bookings are not necessary.
The Friday walk (distance 10 km) will start about 9.00 am and will be a circular
walk which has a bit of everything, including lots of spectacular views and
interesting and varied terrain and vegetation. There is a very small but dense
section of coastal scrub where gaiters would beuseful. Rock hopping around the headland is optional, if you are not keen on this, there is an easy walking trail alternative. Bring water plus lunch.
Opportunities for swimming in several locations.

There are several possible shorter walks on the Saturday and there are plenty of
things to see and do in the vicinity. Lighthouse tours may be available for those
interested. Because the park has been closed during the January/February
